Dr. Walters graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2003 with a degree in Kinesiology Sciences and was awarded her M.D. in 2007 from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Her honors and awards include induction to the Pathology Honors Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society, the Commonwealth Award in Medicine, and the Eric C. Schelin Award for outstanding academic performance.

Upon graduation from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Dr. Walters completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, followed by her fellowship in Gastroenterology at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. During her fellowship, she was awarded the Customer Service is Key Award for exceptional patient care.

Dr. Walters has authored and co-authored several medical publications on Gastroenterological diseases, disorders, and treatments, as well as lectured on such topics throughout her educational and professional career.
